E-tape vs Vibac - Key Differences in 2023

Are you wondering what the differences are between E-tape and Vibac tape?

Sometimes when you are approached with a new product to try, you may feel that if it’s not broken - then don’t fix it. We completely get this; the grass isn’t always greener…But sometimes it is, and we just haven’t given the alternative product a try.

If you are a frequent operator or buyer of tape, then you have most probably heard of and or used both E-Tape and Vibac Tape, they are two of the most well-known packaging tapes in the industry. So, let’s review the main features of E-tape and Vibac and see how they stack up.

Adhesive

All reputable tapes – such as Vibac or E-Tape – stick. The question is whether you want it to stick fast, stick for a long time, stick even in difficult conditions – or all the above. This doesn’t so much come down to the brand, but the type of adhesive. Vibac and E-Tape ranges both contain the three main adhesives – acrylic (long lasting), hot melt (fast-tack) and solvent (both).

Vibac is a very strong brand.  Our customers often ask, ‘will E-tape be as sticky?’ E-tape is in fact not an inferior specification to Vibac, however it is important you chose the right adhesive. Vibac is commonly found with a hotmelt adhesive which has is high-tack properties.

Strength

Another feature our customers often look at is the strength of E-tape vs Vibac. Give or take and depending on the type of adhesive, both ranges are 20 microns and a total thickness of 43 microns.

Vibac tape is often confused with vinyl tape.  This is a very thick, easy tear type of tape – and not a tape brand!  Both E-Tape and Vibac have vinyl tapes in the range.

Roll length

  • E-tape has a unique 150m length roll.
  • Vibac has a traditional tape length at 66m.

Why is this important?

Firstly, the cost per roll may seem cheaper at first glance. But when you do the maths E-tape has 227% more meters per roll compared to Vibac. So, it’s important to work out what you are paying for your packaging tape per metre rather than roll.

 For example:

E-tape + (clear, acrylic tape) is priced at £1.35 per roll, equating to £0.009/m. A quick look at the first result on Google and Vibac tape of a comparable adhesive (clear acrylic) is £1.29 per roll, equating to £0.019/m.

A notable difference, particularly if you are a medium to high volume user.

Secondly, E-tape will require less roll changes, saving time and therefore money.

Core size

To accommodate the additional meters per roll. E-tape has a 2” core size.

It’s counterpart Vibac’s core size is 3”.

Why is this important?

From a storage perspective, this is key. The same number of rolls of each brand fit in the same size box.

So, you can order a box (36 rolls) of E-tape and have 5400m of tape in your warehouse. Or you can order a box (36 rolls) of Vibac tape and have 2376m of tape available.

If you’re looking to save space and reduce your carbon footprint by reducing the number of deliveries you receive, this is sure fire way to start.

Summary

To summarise, Vibac is has done well to establish a very strong brand through a high and consistent product quality.  That is to their credit and Vibac products are priced accordingly.

E-Tape is hardly new to the market and has also built a reputation for product quality and extra value gained through the roll length.

Both tape ranges (and they are a range – Vibac doesn’t just mean Vinyl) have comprehensive offerings of adhesives for a variety of range.  The most important thing when choosing tape is to find the right adhesive for your application!
